Dancing on Sunshine

Dancer. Artist. Actress. Scholar. Activist.
College freshie, one of those lazy, self-absorbed millennials.
Certified in nerdiness, geekerocity, and general awkwardness in polite society.
I enjoy drawing, reading comic books, and dancing to the music only I can hear.

Title: “Silencing Us”
Media: watercolor
Hey, look, feminism! Creepy, weird-ass-looking feminism, but with a purpose! I feel as though the more young women learn to advocate for themselves and for others, the more society finds ways to shut them, us, up. In this case, the person (can be male or female, or completely gender-neutral!) is (metaphorically) sewing the woman’s mouth shut as punishment for speaking up for herself, and thus ensuring she won’t be able to do so again. I also want to viewer to question whether the hands could be their own: are they guilty of doing this so some one?
